What Are Your Goals For 2018

Real Estate Agent with GreatWest Realty DRE# 00827565

At the beginning of January 2017, I made a New Years resolution to learn Spanish. I missed my mark of becoming fluent in a year. Learning a new language is more difficult than I originally thought. However, Duolingo says I am 48% fluent. The quest for fluency continues as a goal for 2018.  In today's world learning a second language or more is beneficial to negotiating business goals, and life in general.  For seniors, there is evidence learning a second language helps boost memory.  I use the free on-line language learning tool, Duolingo.  I can't say enough for it.  It makes learning languages more like a game than a task.  It's available at: https://www.duolingo.com

What are your goals for 2018?

Good for you Myrl!!!   I've been thinking about learning French or Italian...no particular reason. And you're on target. Studies I read suggest that learning something new...using a different part of your brain are great for the mind!!!

I have a feeling that you will be fluent by the end of the year and you can probably get around pretty well in Mexico right now.

You are definitely more fluent today than before you started and more fluent than so many others who attempted to learn Spanish but quit before they could have a conversation with others in Spanish.

Good for you in taking on that goal. Spanish is a very useful language.  After five years of the language in college, I managed to remember the word for butter in a restaurant lately.  Make sure you use it so you don't lose it like I did.

50% is better than my Spanish...if I torture the French language, I can make myself understood, and Ron who is a native Californian does better...LOL

As you know, Myrl, I, too, studied Spanish. Not Latin, though. I had to prepare for our trip to Spain. But it's come in very handy. One of the things that helped me was to write Post-It notes in Spanish and stick them on things all over the house. LOL.

Congratulations on being almost 50% fluent. I didn't get quite that far, but I still do daily Spanish words. I signed up on Spanishdict.com to get daily words.

Myrl, Great goal to learn a new language.  I too heard that learning a language or learning to play an instrument are good exercises for the aging brain. I like this tool.  Thank you for sharing it! Will have to check it out.  Maybe by this time next year you will be 100% fluent!

All the best in 2018!

Will have to see if they have something similar for German, Myrl Jeffcoat ... I would love to further what I learned in high school.  With a name like Mundt, I'd be a natural at it, right?

You inspire me!
