As 2017 drew to a close, I wanted to continue my war against shiny Gold in my home. Upgrading lighting in my home was way over due! So one Saturday I surprised my wife by taking her to the local lighting store and said, let's upgrade! At first she thought about upgrading me, but then she got into the spirit of things.
The first lights to go were the front lights at the front door. As you can see from this picture, the new light is on the right and the old on the left. I felt we needed to get a new, updated look and my wife was tired of the birds building nests in the old ones and making a mess. The new lights were just a bit bigger, and while they look black in this picture, they are really not entirely black, with some gray in them.
The foyer and dining room lights came next. Interestingly, the new foyer light has some gold in it, just not shiny. The dining room light is more of a wrought iron look to complement the pilasters in the staircase leading upstairs.
Next up on the list of fixes are the front windows. There are 3 windows on either side of the front of the home, and a large palladium window above. These are all single pane windows and will be replaced with double pane energy efficient windows. The door will be replaced as well with double doors, eliminating the transom and side lights.
These fixes are all aimed at updating the house for eventual resale, probably 5-7 years from now. We feel confident that these upgrades will make our home show the best and help us get the most for the home possible.
