When I first saw the word Weltanschauung pop up on ActiveRain I was a little surprised.
As a native speaker of German, I didn't have any issues pronouncing, spelling, or understanding the word. What I was curious about though was what a - literally translated - "world view" has to do with a blogging platform such as ActiveRain.

The point is that ActiveRain is much more than a just a platform. It is a community, comprised of people from many different walks of life, joined by common or similar interests and professions mostly surrounding the real estate industry.
ActiveRain has given members an outlet to let their voices be heard about topics that are of interest to not only to other members but also the public in general.
The Oxford dictionary defines Weltanschauung as "a particular philosphy or view of life; the world view of an individual or group".
Weltanschauung therefore is more than just a world view, rather it's an outlook on life, the way we see things and act upon them. It can be different for every individual or group. It can be rather simple and laissez-faire such as "live and let live" or it can be detailed and specific.
As such, ActiveRain's Weltanschauung contains 10 principles that guide us as a community. One of them, the last one in fact, states:
ActiveRain believes that it is in the best interests of real estate professionals to build a community that is focused on educating one another. ActiveRain believes its future depends on members of all experience levels openly sharing their experiences and best practices with others in the field. This communal dialogue offers a unique opportunity for professional growth and is the way to share in the dynamism and excitement that constitutes the modern real estate business.
This is one of the major aspects of ActiveRain. I didn't know what I got into when I typed the URL www.activeraincom for the very first time.
What I found out fairly quickly was that this ActiveRain site was something special. I was a relatively new agent, been in the business for less than two years at the time and I was amazed by the amount of knowledge, expertise, ideas, strategies and advice that was being freely shared by other professionals.
In those early years, I learnt more from reading and interacting with real estate professionals from around the country than from those in my own office or association. I am happy to have found Activerain when I did and can only hope that over the years I have been able to give back at least a little of what I have gained.
If you are interested - and I encourage you - read the entire ActiveRain Weltanschauung. You will find it by clicking on the link or under "Getting Started on AR" at the bottom of the page.
