The New Year is always about just that.
New.
Whether it's a new job, haircut, gym or those ever dreaded resolutions, The New Year is all about starting.
You might be starting over (many companies, including real estate brokerages) roll your number back to ZERO on January 1. Yep, gotta start all over to meet that sales goal, or commission cap or _____________(fill in the blank!)
The start of the New Year does just seem to be a time to reflect back, and then re-focus on what you are going to focus on for the New Year.
Take real estate. I've been selling since 2004. Prior to that, I was in Sales with Hilton Hotels for many years. So, I'm used to goals, and new goals in a new year. My goals may have been spelled out in a Marketing Plan or something. Well, I hate to say it, but only in the last few years have I had a goal in real estate. I've hit and I've missed. But one thing I have never done is have them up and visual on a wall. Nope. Never done that.
Well I've got my 2018 on, and thanks to joining coaching (shout out to Tom Ferry and his organization and my own coach, Cassandra) I've for the first time, installed a big white board in my home office. Like 3'x4' BIG.
Now my GCI (Gross Commission Income) goal, my Buyer and Seller Goals, my Conversations, my blog posts, my videos, my Savings Goal and my Debt Reduction Goal. All of them are now up, and visual, for me to see each and every day. I'm going to be moving out of my home office (partially) and back to an office in one of my main market areas in March. I didn't want such a board in my office there where others could see these goals. Frankly, none of their darn business. It's MY goal! It's my 2018!
It's already helping me focus. I've still got to add the section for my Buyer and Seller Leads so that is visual. But just seeing those numbers in big print on the wall...it's making me work harder.
Another thing that has come from my year of coaching is a routine. Now, I'm still struggling with how to make that work, but I'm proud of one part of it. I've slowly inched my alarm clock back and I'm now up at 5am. In fact, I usually wake up BEFORE the alarm goes off! Now, you may think "D@mn, he's crazy to be up at that hour!" Well, it's awesome for me!
It's been cold, but now that we have a warm spell, I'll be out the door by 5:15-5:30am to head to the gym. (one of my goals although not on my whiteboard!) Home, to do my Morning Mantra, coffee and breakfast and then onto my Hour of Client Conversations! Making phone calls to connect with past and future clients.
I still havn't figured out where the meditation will fit in. I think it needs to be before the gym as I'm usually pumped up when I get home from there. Still working on that one.
But, I've got my 2018 ON!
(The photo is of my nephew's son....it was on the fly, trying to get him to stop for a moment, and this was what I got. It's like he's got his game on, and so it makes me think of having MY game on! Isn't Liam just adorable! As soon as he's a bit older --I've never had kids --- I'll be "borrowing him" from his Mother and taking him places.....)
Do You Have Your 2018 On?
