How specialized are you? In real estate, you need to continue to get education and develop your special niche.

Original content by Sally K. & David L. Hanson 57026-90 Broker

"There is going to come a time,  when there is a right eye doctor and a left eye doctor....things have become soooooo specialized."   I have to agree says she Eyewho has 3 dentists....one "regular gal", the exodontist...gotta love those root canals....and the implant specialist.

Each specialist recognized in their field and their communities for their particular area of expertise....and it got me to thinking about real estate...Have you "claimed your area of expertise" ?   Do you have a niche ?

Do people know that you are not just the agent ...who lists houses or the lender who works with mortgages ?  Why should people choose you over any other agent, lender, insurance...service professional in the markmortarboardet ?  Have you given them a reason ?

Carving a niche begins with education....learning as much as you can about a particular area....to be recognized as the expert...you have to first develop the expertise !  It isn't enough to have a license..that is such a basic requirement. While some of us have Broker Licenses...because your state requires it OR because you have chosen to further your real estate education...it says something to consumers about your level of expertise in the industry.

It isn't enough to list and sell houses because you live in one....and passed the same licensing requirements as every other agent....not if you want a niche in this industry.

Expertise Despite the ads in social media...whatever niche you choose to develop...whatever expertise for which you want recognition...it does not happen overnight or in three easy steps that if you just watch their webinar, buy their course, use their letters, their emails,  etc...POOF...new business !

Be analytical...how many other people have or claim to have the area of expertise you are seeking in your market ?   If they are successful....what have they done to establish it ?   What can you do ....the same or differently ?  How can you choose to promote your niche in your market ?

Anything worth doing is worth doing well ! Your education won't speak for itself....you have to have it, be successful with it, and promote it.

This has been a professional education post brought to you by Sally K. & David L. Hanson who have a real estate practice in southeastern Wisconsin founded in education and fostered by successful experience honored to be of service for all things real estate.

Oh, this is a great one for a re-blog, Debbie! I'm sure you tell your new agents that it doesn't happen overnight but, I think that's the biggest disappointment for new agents. They expect it to and when it doesn't, they just give it up!

Happy Friday!

Debbbie, excellent choice for a reblog and I agree with Debe Maxwell, CRS  regarding new agents once they have their license.

Great re-blog, Debbie.  I know that niche real estate can be so effective, as Ron and Alexandra say so eloquently.  It is hard to be the expert in everything, but being the expert in something can lead to great success.
