Paradise Cove, Malibu, CA is a local attraction and more…
Those of you, who read my posts regularly know we had visitors from Dublin, Ireland. I find it ironic, when we have out of state and out of country visitors, we tend to learn so much more about our own backyard and our own history, unlike when we are by ourselves.
Just as an example, my friend wanted to visit the place, where the Rockford File TV series was filmed. I had no idea so thanks to Mr. Google, I learned that it was filmed in a dilapidated mobile home in the parking lot of Paradise Cove.
Keep in mind we have spent a handful or more times visiting Paradise Cove, Malibu. We even had numerous lunches and checked out the grounds on more than one occasion, without being aware of this significant trivia. I even had clients from Australia visiting and had lunch at the restaurant, but had no idea that the television show that aired on TV for six seasons and about 122 episodes was filmed at Paradise Cove from 1974-1980.
As we were walking around my friend said that the beach was larger as was the Pier in the TV series and he was surprised to see both being smaller. I naively assured him that this is the magic of TV cameras and smoke and mirrors. Well go figure when we found pictures on the side of the Restaurant, as well as inside the restaurant showing old photos we noticed that he was correct. We discovered indeed both were larger just as Jimmy remembered it. Clearly beach erosion has been the culprit. Hard to fathom the difference of what 45 years has done to the beach.
Today the Pier is about forty to fifty feet shorter as is the beach. Now you would not be able to park two or three cars on the beach as the photos show it from yester year.
Clearly Paradise Cove is a great local attraction, on a side note if you do not plan on eating at the restaurant, I would suggest you park on top on the Pacific Coast Highway and walk down, otherwise you might find the parking a bit steep. Just an FYI without validation it will cost you about $36, keep in mind the restaurant will not validate unless you spend about $30, so consider yourself forewarned😊!
