Houston Weather, very Strange this year

By
Industry Observer

This years weather in Houston has been absolutely crazy this year, from an absoutely hot hot summer, to the most horrible hurricane in Houston history, Harvey. We had a very hot Indian Summer where the temperatures were in the 90's in October. We have now had 2 snow events in one winter, have used our coats more than in the past several winters combined. The good news, the Gulf should be much cooler therefore a less strong hurricane season and less bugs. The amount of mosquitos after Harvey were one of the worst ever. The best thing is "We are Houston Strong."

Call me crazy, but I think it's all part of "climate change." ;)  Regardless, it sure keeps us all on our toes. D

Good afternoon Yolanda - you have a good point. I hope the cooler water means less hurricanes.

It’s crazy but the south has had more snow than we have had this year - and usually if our snowstorms come up from the south, they are doozies.  This yer they are running out of steam before they drop much snow on us.

We are having delightful balmy weather with cool nights.  Happily given the massive clean up and freeway closures, the forecast for rain went away...LOL A

The last 12 months have seen so many weather challenges across the nation.  There was the hurricane in your area.  The severe snow storms along the eastern states.  Wildfires and mudslides in California, and some of the western states.  I'm hoping for a milder 2018, but we don't seem to be getting off to the best of starts.

It's been crazy throughout the country this year Yolanda. We just got five inches of snow & it's supposed to be in the 60's this weekend. Before that we had that cold snap of temps in the teens then it was in the 70's again. Wacky!

Hi Yolanda- I spoke with my brother in Houston today and he said that schools were out the other day because of the ice. What a crazy weather year.

Glad you are persevering. Climate change has made storms bigger and the warmth in the artic has pushed snow and cold conditions south.

Hi Yolanda... we've have very odd weather in Charlotte, as well. One day it's almost 70 degrees and the next barely above freezing.

I just talked to a friend that was in Cancun last week and the cold has even migrated that far south. She said the water was freezing cold. Stop sending your snow in my direction.

Yolanda, it does sound like you have had some extreme weather, and we have been way too warm.  Until tonight, we have only had a few flakes.
