Email Signatures - How Good/Bad Are They?

By
Education & Training with Retired Executive Director of Education at eXp Non-Licensed

There are so many technology tools in Real Estate today, I think half the battle is determining which one's work and which one's don't. No matter what you use in your business to promote and make yourself available to consumers, family, friends and clients, I think an up-to-date signature on your email messages should be a top priority. I receive hundreds of emails on my ActiveRain and Yahoo accounts. So yes, I have seen many of YOUR signatures. :-)) (Brad Grins...)

Do you have your number or contact info there? Is your signature branded with your company logo and current photo? Are there links to information about you or your business others might find useful? Do the links work, or do they need updating? Or is your signature just blank?

I read some Blogs recently that say why a signature is not necessary. IMO, since email is the most commonly used form of communication along with text messaging, how important is all this anyway? I guess this is a choice every individual needs to make. Only you know your thoughts and what you believe regardless if you decide to share that opinion here or not. See, there you go thinking about it.. lol~

Here's a service provided by "Email Ideas" and at first glance, I like the product they offer. The one I am using here and on my email signature over at yahoo.com, is a FREE signature eCard. It has a link to create your own, and an advertisement up the side, both of which will disappear if you decided to pay for a service like this. It's a pretty cool layout with the HTML embed links, so I thought I'd share it with you.

Whether you use a service like EmailIdeas, MyBlogLog or any other eCard / vCard service, I think it's important to have information like this made readily available in a professional and easy to read format or layout.

Have you updated your email signature lately? Do you need to? Is it good or is it bad? Don't be afraid to ask others and get their opinions. That's what I did.

Try this tool yourself for FREE. If you don't like it, nothing ventured, nothing gained. If all this post does is get you to re-evaluate your email signature, then it has served it's purpose. The "EmailIdeas" eCard works with the following:

Here's another sample eSignature from the "MyBlogLog"" site, it's more of a social networking style. There's many others out there I'm sure. These are not only good for email signatures, they can be used here on AR like below, or on your outside Blogs and websites, even as a graphic or Brand on your snail mail and letters. I kinda like these tools and the price.

Hi everyone.  I just wanted to let you know we have resolved the problem people were having with Outlook 2007.  If anyone needs an update, just go out our website, www.emailideas.com and click on the login on the top right hand corner.  After you login, look for the "re-install this eCard" button.

For you GMail users, we are still working on that.

And finally, we are about to release a Mac Mail version.  If anyone wants to volunteer to be a beta tester, please send me an email - john@emailideas.com.

John - glad to hear you are working on one for he Mac.  We have many Mac users here and I'm sure there would be some interested in an ecard.  Thanks for the update on what's happening over there, sounds like you guys are working hard to keep things working efficiently and coming up with new improvementsall the time. :-)

Any reports for me yet?  Would love to get AN UPDATE on how everything is going. Thanks John.  B-)

I guess I am going to have to look into one of these.  I just didn't want it to look too cheesy, and like everyone else's.  But, if you say we should have something, then I am going with that.

Hi Brad,

What I didn't like about the email ideas one is that you have to pay a subscription with them to keep it up. I'm trying to avoid new ongoing expenses. Looks like it should be possible to design one in MS Publisher, though.

When I use email stationery, a lot of times the mail falls into spam folders. I'm wondering if that would happen more with this too b/c of the Html??

Mary - the card is always FREE, but it will always have the Ad on the side unless you pay for the subscription, then they remove the ad.  As far as HTML, that's something that will always be an issue depending on how people setup their email accounts.  I think the majority do allow HTML, but it is and will probably always be an option to only allow text, which would render the ecard, and any others like it, useless for sure.

Norma - go for it, it's FREE.  Also check out MyBlogLog, and REtagr, they both offer a nice signature with links and also have some other really great value and tools.

Brad,

Do you have any 2009 advice on the subject?  It seems this is no longer a feature in MyBlogLog and my internet search is running dry.... thanks!

Hi Julia - I use retaggr.com and I know there are many others out there that offer email signatures in certain formats.  I think mybloglog does still offer this, they have just moved it or changed it and modified it since this post.  Let me know if you need any assistance getting one of these setup once you find the source you'd like to use.  Again, I like the retaggr.com site because it pulls all my sites together on one signature card.  :-)
