Kagel Canyon after the fires...

Real Estate Agent with Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices 01238708

Sometimes it is hard to go to check out a potential listing....as most of you know there were these tragic fires in the recent past,  which lasted a long time and  caused a lots of devastation....Well the other day one of my co-workers asked if I would be interested in sharing a listing. Yes you guessed it was land... Now with that said before I committed 100 per cent I wanted to get an idea...

I drove out to see what was left of the area. Keep in mind three years ago I sold a land very close to this property. Needless to say that is a post in the future....

When I got to the property, all I could do was ' Pause & Absorb' the devastation... a few minutes of walking around and shortly after it one of the neighbors came out.

We had a sad but nice conversation... seventeen homes were lost and the fire department was not able to do anything. The Trucks could not get there and for some reason the Helicopters did not splash water on the fires either....but that is another story.

Some of the home owners are planing to rebuild, others are on the fence as to what they will do but there are a couple that just want to sell the land and move somewhere else. Hard to fathom the emotional aspect.

From a business perspective one has to look at the numbers and make a decisions. There were Fires in Malibu many years ago and the place has been rebuilt and short term memory virtually forgot that we had fires there.

There were fires in Laurel Canyon and the memory is just that a far away memory.

Now the Kegel Canyon Fires are still fresh so it is a different perspective.

What would you do? Rebuild or Sell the Land?

Anyway see these pictures and tell me what your thoughts are...

The last three photos were taken three years ago before the fires....

Morning Endre.

If I loved the area I would rebuild, if not move on.  I look at a home as a temporary resting place.  I concentrate on the final place where I will be, after I'm placed on the wrong side of the grass

That had to be an emotionally charged visit....and a tough decision to make for homeowners...not one we would welcome...but if we loved it...we would be the first to start over most probably.

Good morning Endre Barath, Jr. I would be torn, but likely rebuild. Not an easy sight to see after the fire but your earlier photos are a reminder of what it can be! Enjoy your day!

If I were happy there and loved the area I would rebuild.  It is a big decision for certain.  In time the memory will fade.

Any of this is sad to me, Endre. I have a new buyer who has fallen in love with Fishhawk Lake and a home here. She has lived in Ojai for many years, and her property was devastated. She's going back just long enough to say goodbye to neighbors/friends, pack up and leave CA far behind.

Good evening Endre Barath, Jr. ,

The devastation is hard to comprehend and I'm not sure I could re-build as I'm not sure I'd feel the same. George Souto is right the fires created to a sobering reality.

Endre Barath, Jr. - my thoughts are....

An impoverished person would not turn up their nose. Oh what people in other nations wouldn't do to have a piece of land to call their own. Someone will come along with fresh eyes, a new vision, and that would be a vast improvement from what it looks like now.

Oh, this is heartbreaking and I'm sure a very emotional visit with the neighbors as well, Endre. It would all depend upon my present state of mind as to whether I would re-build or move-on.

Since they decided to move-on, you're certainly the right person for the job - the other agent made the right call...for sure!

Endre- those pictures are so hard to look at. I'm not sure what I'd do but like after the hurricanes here, people do rebuild. For me it would depend on my state of mind and what time of my life it hit me.
