The Carlsbad City Library
Carlsbad is fortunate to have a wonderful library system that attracts a host of users to its 2 facilities, the Georgina Cole Library (just blocks from the Village) and the Dove Library (in south Carlsbad in the La Costa area), plus the Carlsbad City Library Learning Center.
Both libraries are in excess of 20,000 sf each. And there are abundant services at each of these facilities to service multiple needs of Carlsbad residents.
Obviously there are many thousands of books, periodicals, movies, CDs, and DVD for circulation available to residents with library cards, along with multiple computers available on a first come first serve basis. There is a new Library Tech Lab at the Dove Library complex.
There are book clubs, computer training classes, a used book store, a Homebound Program with volunteers that deliver books/audiobooks/CD/movies to those medically unable to access the library system reading programs for adults/teens/kids, one of the largest genealogy collections (multi-media including print, micofile, microfiche) in Southern California
The Dove Library Complex also includes the Ruby G. Schulman Auditorium, a meeting room, and the popular Walter D. Cannon Art Gallery.
The Cannon Gallery offers multiple outstanding exhibits during the year with family open studios, usually on the Saturday following the opening (stay tuned for my visit to the Haitian art exhibit coming up next month).
There are multiple musical performances at the Schulman theater, as well as play readings, author lectures, and 2 different film series.
International Guitar Night held at the Shculman Auditorium has been a stellar event the several times I have attended. And both the auditorium and the meeting room are available for rent as well.
