My grandson Baron is visiting me this weekend. After breakfast, we performed a home escape while taking advantage of blue skies which lurked outside my kitchen window. Our destination became California Gold Country, with little towns along Highway 49 – Fiddletown, Amador City and Sutter Creek.
Little things I enjoy during short journeys within a 100 miles of home, are experiences that emerge from the realm of the unexpected. For example, shortly before noon we stepped inside The Sutter Creek Ice Cream Emporium. We planned to indulge in a healthy lunch of ice cream cones or sundaes.
We were lone patrons at our little table. However, it wasn’t long before Clancy stepped inside and began looking around the eclectic shop. I have to get his picture, I thought. When I conjured courage to ask, he easily agreed, for the small price of his sitting with us to sip his morning tea.
Because Clancy mentioned a historical site a half block away, and because of his dress, I thought he may be a docent for the historical town. But instead, he explained he was a magician. He provided a few moments of delightful company and some of his magical wonder. Ice cream and magic. . .It doesn’t get much better than that!
When we stood to leave, Clancy provided us his card. It reads: “MAGIC” By Clancy (916) 681-1283.
