Inane Answering Message Day is January 30.
Does anyone leave a voice message anymore? With texts, email, and any number of ways to let someone know that you have a message for them, sometimes I wonder if voicemail is going the way of Rolodexes. (remember them?)
Often when someone tries to reach me and gets my outgoing message, they will instead text me.
They may text me that they left me a message or text me with whatever message they wanted to leave.
That’s quite all right with me.
Nevertheless, your outgoing message is an integral part of the impression you’re making to a potential client, peer, whomever.
So, have you checked yours lately?
OOPS
I did as I was writing this post, and discovered that in one of the many iPhone updates and for any number of reasons, my outgoing message had reverted to the default iPhone message.
I have a few pet peeves of mine...purely personal...that drive me bat-crazy with outgoing messages. *
~The outgoing “I love me” message that takes forever to listen to
~The outgoing message that tries to tell me the marketing report for the local area or 3 reasons why I should stage now, or the current mortgage rates for the entire country...you get my drift
~and my all-time BIG PET PEEVE-
“Please leave your name and number and I will call you back at MY earliest convenience.”
Find out more about voicemail greetings.
And just for fun, I love this outgoing message by Samuel L Jackson! You can actually download it for your own use.
*This relates solely to outgoing business messages. Your personal messages are fair game.
