A True Story: The Power of a Blog Comment on Activerain

 Here is a true story about how my comment on a blog turned into a radio interview. I'm sitting in front my laptop screen in my home tuned into the Activerain web site browsing for a blog to read. It is January 28th 2018 at 4:28 am MST. Sipping my 2nd cup of coffee, this blog title Don't Expect To Be Spoon Fed written by Margaret Rome caught my attention. You may be wondering why? For years, I have been quietly passing forward the wisdom in her book, Real Estate the Rome Way to new agents as a loaner. [And of course, this minute I just discovered it is on Amazon and Kindle!]  It was too early to call... anyone. But never too early to comment! 

 

Here was my comment: Margaret Rome, Baltimore Maryland you know I still remember our first conversation when I found myself in the rain. And then I purchased your book and additional copies which I still pass forward to newbies to give them a head start. The ones that "read" are making a more than a living. Reading and being open to learning is clearly the path vs spoonfed! Congratulations on all your features and thank you for all you do for us.

It was only a few hours later when Margaret called and asked me if I was free to be interviewed on her CALL IN - Let's Talk About Real Estate show that morning on WCBM Talk Radio AM680 at Noon EST. Outside my window, four young deer appeared from the trees. I wrote down the Call In number, put out some apples for the deer and called WCBM.

Did I expect any of this to happen? No. Was I ready for it? YES! It was an unexpected opportunity to continue a silent blog conversation on Talk Radio. Looking back at the interview, it seemed like a  quantum leap into a live improvised interview. We jumped from lack of motivation often seen in new agents (newbies) to a lack of curiosity in some seasoned agents. I thought a block to success was an unwillingness to always be learning. And more importantly, to adapt to technology! The best way in my opinion was to break the habit of being ourselves in new situations. Improvising outside a comfort zone or trying something different is the way to set new patterns. 

Then, it was 1:00 pm EST and the interview was over. I looked at my iphone in wonder. And for some reason,  I remembered seeing my father come home one day with a black and silver transitor radio in his hand. He was beyond excited to show me this magic. I can still hear say this radio was like a library of news and stories in his hand and to pay attention to what would be happening next! I did. And now we have iphones and androids!

These extraordinary tools connected to the internet have changed how we communicate with each other and how we use Activerain. Who knows what tomorrow will bring. Perhaps, it is time to turn a comment into a conversation and discover the power of a new connection. Thank you for reading. Let the comments begin...
