Dodging a text-bullet.

There must be a new scam out there.

I've been receiving random texts from complete strangers. 

So they started their text to me with a very clever opening line "hi".

I responded with an equally clever "Who is this?"

"I found your picture on Active Rain, and I like you"

"Well, isn't that special?"

"Yeah. Where are you from?"

Now, maybe it's just me, but I replied:

"If you found me on Active Rain, you should already know where I'm from."

"LOL... I just wanted to know more about you..."

"Everything you need to know about me is on my profile".

The brain-trust at the other end then said "I just to talk to you as pal so i don't need to use what i saw over there as part of our conversation"

"I'm not looking for any new text-pals... thanks". 

Phew... bullet dodged.

Sounds like trouble.  I'd delete it immediately.  Who knows what sort of stuff they might be trying to do.

I've been getting short emails from people on my contacts list.  It's usually something simple like I thought you might enjoy this video and then there is a link.  When I got the same sort of emails from a variety of people who haven't emailed for quite some time I figured that it was some sort of scam.  I never clicked.

Oh, I'm sure it's trouble.  I can't imagine what their goal was/is... but I'm sure it's not to benefit me.

Alan- Personally if I'm going to get Spam, I'd rather get the kind in a can that is totally bad for you but if done right can taste pretty good.

Yes I have been getting Spam Texts too lucky my delete button works full time and it also blocks real well... Funny part is on Instagram I did not realize there are so many young hot women that want me:))Endre

This is one I've not had (yet)... but plenty of others that I've permanently blocked. I've had similar such messages on Facebook and LinkedIn, however.

I didn't realize there was anyone still out there without an unlimited texting plan.  I have two daughters... if my plan wasn't unlimited, I wouldn't have been able to afford to send them to college.

I never thought spam could be so prolific but now I no longer respond to messages from numbers I don't know without a good deal of verifiable info.

Did you happen to google the number Alan May?  Just curious.  A lot of times, the number comes up as problematic.
