I've always touted Active Rain as being a great way to have a large referral network right at your fingertips. Over the last several years, I've done many referrals using AR members.
My most recent referral was with Hella Mitschke Rothwell. My client had a property that was part of an estate that needed to get on the market. I called Hella, and she got on it right away. My client wanted instant contact, and Hella provided that.
Throughout the transaction Hella and I stayed in touch. I know she worked really hard on this one as I'm know she does on all of her 'deals'. But there were a lot of obstacles that needed to be worked through on this particular sale. Hella got the job done. She admits to learning a lot on this transaction.
My client is very happy, and has told me that she wouldn't hesitate to use Hella again for any real estate needs she has in and around the Carmel, CA area. She also left a nice recommendation for Hella. My client (and now Hella's client) isn't that easily pleased. She knows a good thing when she finds it, and she found a good agent in Hella.
Another nice thing that came out of this situation, is that Hella and I got to know each other better. We have a deeper understanding of each other and how we both work. We have very similar philosophies when it comes to real estate and getting the job done for our clients. Hella also does an amazing job marketing herself and her listings. I can't wait to meet her in person, and I hope that happens soon.
I understand time constraints and other reasons for not being an active member on AR, but my time spent here has really paid off. The referrals alone have made my time here profitable.
But it's not always about the money...I've written about that before. I really enjoy writing blog posts and sharing my experiences and market information with everyone. I've made some good friends, and business contacts, because I've been a member of AR for so long.
If you're an active blogger and/or reader on AR, then I'm sure you feel like you know a lot of the members just from reading their posts. You can get a good feel for how they do business from what they write about their experiences, sales and listings.
If you don't have an agent in mind, it's pretty simple to find someone on AR. You want to go to the leader board for the state in which you need assistance. Then break it down by county. After that fine tune it even further by city. Then start reading. That's how I do it when I don't directly know an AR agent in a particular area.
After that process I start reading posts, and I narrow down my agent selection. Then I start making phone calls. It's that's easy.
So referrals and good friendships are only two more benefits to being an Active Rain member. Go ahead and refer away. I love referrals. Contact me if you need any assistance in Western Colorado. If I can't do it, I probably know someone that can.
