It's Not About You

Yesterday, I had the priviledge of attending a Women's Council of REALTORS® broker limo tour.  What a treat to see 6 homes in 3 zip codes with professionals!  But of course I would say that as a WCR member (wink, wink!)  

 

Being a true professional requires discipline, care and concern for others.  We all know this but how often do we stop and consider the use of the word "I?"  I did this; I saw that; I tried this or that.    Being a true professional is putting others first so when hearing the word "I" repeatedly in a sentence, to me, does not a professional make. 

 

I've seen this tpye of behavior before from others, not those in attendance at the limo tour  It makes you pause when someone repeatedly says "I."  "Get out of your own way" I think to myself.  Would you use an affiliate sponsor who repeatedly said "I?"  "I" think not!  

 

Word of advice.  Put yourself in that real estate agent's, client's shoes.  Provide something of value to another that makes you seem indespensable.  Make sure not to use the word "I" so much and see what happens!  Chances are the person you're speaking with has enough going and may need your advice.  

 

Be the positive force in someone else's life. It's not about you!

I recently had a client say to me that she hoped I would get busier soon.  I am sure I looked at her quizzically because I've been finding it hard to find time to sleep and keep my house vacuumed. When I replied "what makes you say that? She said "well I must be your only client right now because you've spent so much time on my marketing and all those showings and the counter offer the past two weeks".  I simply replied "yes, m'am, we've done a lot to get your house pending, but I'll keep at it until we're closed and worry about more business then".  I have 4 pendings and 4 new listings.  But I do try to make all my clients feel like it's all about them.

Good for you Tammy Lankford, !  It's so great when clients see smooth transactions and methods that make them feel they are very special!  Way to go!

Right you are  Endre Barath, Jr. !  It's even more important to let the clients be first in all things regarding business.

So true Debb Janes EcoBroker and Bernie Stea JD !  And of course you are quite good at doing that so you understand this well :)  Yes, goals, goals.  The person on the tour that day clearly had one agenda - to get business.  He didn't care about what others thought of him, big mistake.
