By
Real Estate Agent with EXP Realty 414-525-0563 57026-90 Broker

We are fascinated by the Chinese Culture and have a number of clients past and present of Chinese heritage and are mindful of the holidays that they celebrate.   Such colorful festivities they have to mark the new year which will begin on February 16th.  It is the Year of the Dog. The date for Chinese New Year changes from year to year. This year it will begin on Friday, February Year of the Dog16th. The date changes because it is based upon the lunar calendar and can vary from  January 21 to February 20.

All over the world the sights and sounds of the celebration can be seen with firecrackers, bell ringing and traditional lion dances. Chinese families gather on New Year's Eve for a family dinner. On New Year's Day,  everyone's cleans their homes thoroughly to sweep away any bad fortune to begin the New Year with a fresh start.

The red envelope is  tradition of Chinese.Chinese Red Envelope...it has lucky money and good wishes for a prosperous new year.  As technology has progressed, there is now an app so that relatives may transfer money to accounts for good wishes in the new year.

The Chinese Zodiac has a 12 year cycle and people born in: 1958, 1970, 1982, 1994, 2006 and this year, 2018 are also known as dogs.  Anyone born in these years is believed to be communicative, serious and a very responsible worker.

Brown Cake    In southeastern Wisconsin there is no better way to celebrate this holiday than to go to Lucky Bakery and BBQ where very special cakes have been prepared for this celebration.  The brown cake is made with sticky rice and quite sweet....only prepared for this celebration it is said to bring you good luck.

Another popular New Year's Cake variety is a white White New Year's Cakecake make with rice that is not sticky but also is believed to bring good fortune to those who eat it. Lucky Bakery and BBQ is located at:11078 W National Ave, Milwaukee, WI 53227

The store is open every day except Tuesday from 9 am to 7 pm.   We advise getting there early to get the very best selection and Lucky Bakery & BBQminimizing your time standing in line...this is one deliciously popular place ....for Chinese New Year and ALL the time when your taste buds want the freshest of Bakery and BBQ that you will find anywhere ! Enjoy the Celebration of the Year of the Dog....may it bring you good health and prosperity.

Lise -- we arrived in 1702 as the Wallace family.  In 1725 the Magruders arrived, and intermarried with the Wallaces for a couple of centuries.  I am the direct descendant of Zadock Magruder, for whom a high school is named in Rockville.  The Wallaces and Magruders literally founded Montgomery County.

Very cool stuff.  I am intrigued by the Chinese culture as well, but I have never looked much into it.  I do consume Chinese herbs on a daily basis though!

This is timely information to share.

We will certainly be enjoying some Chinese food even though it will not compare with the wonderful food we had in China.

I love it! I'm a Fire Rooster and our Zodiac Year was LAST year (Zodiac Year is challenging, kind of like 'labor pains before a birth')  . . . so I welcome this Year and it is already going beautifully!
