Oswego's Kiss My Dish Soul Kitchen Hits Its Stride!

Living in a small town has more ups than downs...but finding a good restaurant that is not a national franchise can be challenging.  In Oswego, IL we have some family owned restaurants that have been here for decades but the restaurant business is brutal so when a new restaurant comes to town I try to make it my business to stop and "check it out".

Kiss My Dish Soul Kitchen is small but welcoming site.  After all it took over the space from a mostly take out Chinese business where seating was not the main focus.   The new look is more city than small town.  A step above most "mom & pop" restaurants, diners or pizza joints.   It's sexy and intimate and I would recommend a reservation because of that.

I went in after finding myself with no planned dinner at home on a Friday night after running all day doing errands and taking care of some of my listings.  I was not dressed to "eat out" and had planned to just pick up some food.  After looking at their menu the "shrimp scampi" was something I had to have.  Because of its preparation it was unavailable for take out...but I was determined to have it so, Wanda convinced me to have dinner at one of their tables.  Tables for 2 were all ready reserved so she generously sat me at a table for 4.  Feeling a bit out of place in my "errand" clothes I never the less decided to enjoy the experience.

As soft favorites from "Motown and other R&B" played in the background I was taken back to some of the small upscale restaurants that you find in Chicago.  You would never expect this type of restaurant at the local Ace Hardware strip mall...just like being in Chicago, where some of the best restaurants are off the beaten path.

The food was outstanding....fresh, well presented and worth the wait!  I would have taken pictures but I was too hungry to stop and take a pic!  Besides pics never really tell the whole story...the smell, perfect temperature and the atmosphere.

I tried the chicken wings along with the scampi and the strawberry lemonade.  All were just perfect!  It's so hard to find "real" lemonade anywhere that I just could go there for the lemonade!  Yes, it's that good!

This is a great place for "date night" or special occasion but if you forget to make reservations order for pick-up and still enjoy most of the menu at home.  It's well worth it!  I will be definitely be going back, but perhaps with a reservation, dinner companion and a bit more dressed up...I might even throw on some make-up!

One of my biggest pet peeves when going out in restaurants is the constant need to have a TV turned on, or the music is so loud you can't have a normal conversation.  If I want to see TV I would stay home!  Unless you are a sports bar why have TV's all over the place.  It's bad enough that a large portion of society no longer knows how to have a real conversation because they have to look at their phones but having the TV and music dominating the atmosphere just kills it for me.  Even the most high priced steak houses can't keep the TV's out of the dining rooms or bars.   Talk about killing the "art of conversation" or even the old art of "flirting".   Another rant for another blog....

No TV here!  Please keep it that way...love the sound track and hoping that you expand in a few years! Thanks to the staff for making my impromptu Friday dinner a success!
