John Rock was born in Marlborough, Massachusetts back in 1890. He graduated from Harvard University in 1918. A few years later you could find him operating his medical practice. By the 1940’s he was teaching at Harvard University Medical School. In 1931, he was the only Catholic physician to sign a petition to legalize something, more on that in a moment.
It wasn’t until he was 70 that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved what he had been working on for most of his adult life. For you see John Rock played a major role in the development of the first birth control pill. That approval came in 1960. He died in 1984 at 94.
