What type of DONKEY are you? A smart one or a stubborn one?

So what type of donkey are you?

STORY:

One day a farmer's donkey fell down into a well.  The animal cried pitifully for hours as the farmer tried to figure out what to do.  Finally, he decided the animal was old, and the well needed to be covered up anyway; it just wasn't worth it to retrieve the donkey.
The farmer invited all his neighbors to come over and help him.  They all grabbed a shovel and began to toss the dirt into the well.  At first, the donkey realized what was happening and cried horribly.  Then, to everyone's amazement, he quieted down. A few shovel loads later, the farmer finally looked down the well.
He was astonished at what he saw.  With each shovel of dirt that hit his back, the donkey was doing something amazing.  He would shake it off and then take a step up.  As the farmer's neighbors continued to shovel dirt on top of the animal, he would shake it off and take a step up.  Pretty soon, everyone was amazed as the donkey stepped up over the edge of the well and happily trotted off!
Life is going to shoveled dirt on you, all kinds of dirt.  The trick to getting out of the "well" is to shake it off and take a "step up."  Each of our troubles is a stepping stone.  We can get out of the deepest of "wells" just by not stopping, never giving up!  Shake it off and take a step up.

So what are you?

Are you a smart little donkey?  Or are you the donkey that people would call names at?

I love this as this just kind of goes along with the book "Who Moved my Cheese?" (Click on link for book info.)

The book is a great example of what happens in life and gives us great perspective on how to act!

There are all sorts of things during the day where we can cry.  We can cry that the other agent is calling us back, we can cry that we are getting low ball offers, we can cry that there arent enough buyers, we can cry that there isnt the loan products that used to be.  We can cry all day.

Just as "theres no crying in baseball," as the saying goes....the new saying is "Theres no crying in real estate!"

Are you crying or are you shaking it off and taking a step up?

That is a great post, it is difficult sometimes to shake off the dirt thrown at you, but survival is much better than being buried alive

Absolutely right Dave! I had a situation recently where I was "crying" because I couldn't move one of my listings. I decided to "shake it off" and took a risk by hiring a stager and hosting a open house. Two days later I had three offers come in!

I like this story -- and it also points out it is good to have a great support system -- e.g., those who will keep throwing in the dirt so you can step up!

Utah Dave...

I stopped in to see how you've been. I can not express how much I loved the donkey story. I also enjoyed Joan's perspective. I need someone to keep tossing that dirt. Without dirt there would be...Well...No opportunity for growth. Never mind learning that whole resilience thing :)

Elderberry? Interesting. Sometimes I think the AR Code Monkeys see me coming :)

TLW...ROAR!
