What if You get What You Want? Why Transparency is Important Here.

Real Estate Agent with Coldwell Banker 69190

Just Be Yourself  I assume that we all basically want the same thing out of our blogging efforts here at Active Rain right? We want to reach more people and learn from those in the trenches with us and at the end of the day, maybe just maybe we will see our hard work rewarded with dare I say a phone call or two that leads to some business. You are not alone. In fact that are tons of writers here blistering their keyboards for the chance to meet their next client or catch their next referral. This leads directly to the point of my post. Are you sure to be yourself in the process?

Transparency is Important  You see it's very easy to seem one way or the other while you have ample time to write, rewrite, edit, ponder, and draft before you hit the publish button. So you can always pretend that you are the life of the party with jokes you find on Google or that you are always down to business with no time to waste laughing it up.

But what if you get what you want and your phone rings? What if you manage to meet a new prospect through your efforts. You want be able to change or hide who you are in person.

Blythewood, SC Homes for Sale   So do yourself a huge favor and just be yourself from the start. If you're the goofball that likes a good pun, get in there and show off your word skills. Or, if you're super intense, go ahead and do your thing. You see there are all kinds of people in this world and that's why there are all kinds of Realtors.

Inevitably not everyone will like you or what you have to say, but some people will. So go ahead and say it your way so people know exactly who they're getting when they decide to get in touch with you.

I have not found buyers or sellers via AR but I have gotten and given referrals.  Referrals are a valuable part of my business model.  How about you?

Hi JL.  I love this post!   Finding your own voice and being yourself while blogging is so important and, frankly, liberating.  It's how we differentiate ourself and let people decide if we are "the one" they want to work with.  Plus, it makes the process so much more fun when we are just ourselves.

Dee - I have gotten a few people, but more referrals than direct contact from buyers and sellers.

Carol - It certainly makes it more fun for me. Too stiff otherwise.

This is a wonderful positive post about the power of being authentic. And, it's fun to switch it up from time to time - let the playful side out, the sentimental side. the pensive side... you get the idea. Haha.

Hi J.L. - totally on target with this one. The best and easiest thing to do in a post is to be yourself...let your readers hear your voice.

But JL, I have to let ALL my personalities have a turn at writing the blog. Otherwise, they fight with each other. :)

Sharon Tara - I can't believe you said that. LOL

Good morning JL Boney, III ,

I missed your post this week so was glad that Kathy Streib featured your post in her "Ah-Ha" moments for the week. It is so important to be authentic and let your personality shine through to attract others. There are all kinds and types of people in this world and that's why there are so many kinds of Realtors..its like a puzzle..good fits are found!

Loved this post. Over time, bloggers tell more about themselves whether they want to or not. But their personalities DO come through. And also their professionalism. They let little things slip through here and there which makes us wonder if they are the ones to refer business to or not!?

I think the biggest compliment I have gotten from folks that find me through my blog is that I am exactly what they thought I would be. They didn't met someone else, but the actual personality behind the posts.

I really like this post! I think that being transparent has always been an important part of blogging, and social media but some seem to forget that. You can't be everything to everyone nor should you try...it's bound to fail when you meet in person.

We should blog the way we talk.

I wouldn't want to pretend to be someone I'm not, in any aspect of my life. How difficult that would be!

Great discussion of being one's authentic self...at some point in our teens we try out different personalities based on the popularity index of the "cool" kids, and then discover that we are just fine exactly the way we are...I like this state.  A

Being dishonest in appearance isn't useful in our business. This is one business where being yourself (your professional self) is truly the only way to go. Changing one's appearance on a blog isn't useful or productive in the long run. Thanks for sharing.
