There was a surprise "going away' party, planned for weeks, this past Friday.
It was for Grace, KC's best friend, sister and companion all rolled into one special person.
She was going to Kenya, back home after 12 years in America, to see her mother, children, siblings grand children.
It was more bitter than sweet for KC...but it was the right thing to do.
Loving someone means letting them go.
The party was scheduled for 5:30 but Friday's weather included high winds, downed trees, snow, power outages and the schools and government offices were all closed. It was far from ideal conditions.
But this party had to go on.
Some of the guests arrived early only to find a 'Closed...No Power' sign on the restaurant.
My friend KC with party gal in tow had to go to plan B. I made a call to Michael's Restaurant on York Rd and asked for a reservation for 8 people in the next 15 minutes.
Ha! This is Friday night in Baltimore and was told we could be accommodated at 7:15.
Rona, the hostess, asked for my name.
I said Rome, for 8, first name Margaret.
Her response
'Margaret Rome from real estate?
Come in we will have a table ready for you.'
Gracie, KC
and
Rona (back right) making the surprise happen.
The surprise party was a huge success.
Michael's gave us wonderful service, wonderful food and it was done with ease on a very busy weekend as though it was no big deal.
Grace was surprised and had tears through out the entire dinner.
We all love you Gracie.
It's not all about real estate...or is it?
Thank you Rona and Michael's Cafe for making this last minute reservation.
