"Humble Apple Pie"

During the course of showing homes in outlying areas to a potential buyer couple, they marked one off the list. In the haste to move on to another residence, I failed to call and cancel that showing appointment.

Imagine my surprise when getting a phone from the owner of the home, giving it to me straight about she got up at 6:00 am to clean the house and get it ready. How there were no foot marks in her carpet...

She was highly upset. I apologized but she would have none of it and hung up on me! I called her back, explaining the circumstances and finally she calmed down enough to have a conversation and we rang off.

Still unsettled by my negligence, the next day, I went to Veyo Pies and ordered an Old Fashioned Apple Crumb Pie and hand delivered it to her door. We had a nice chat and all was forgiven.

Her husband even smiled when I said a dollop of vanilla ice cream would make the pie taste better. Have you ever tried "Humble Apple Pie"? It was heavenly though I never did put a bite in my mouth!

Yes it was a very nice gesture delivering the Apple Pie. However be careful that the listing agent doesn't get upset that you had called upon their client. Hopefully you got the permission from the agent or that they were made aware of you intentions. Some here where I am would be calling you up if you had not. But glad it worked out for you and no harsh feelings all around.

Hey, I LOVE Old Fashioned Apple Crumb Pie. I claim you failed to show up to show MY house, too. Where's MY pie? Great gesture on your part. I admit I might have gotten the pie, but then I probably would have eaten it. Shoot, now I need pie!

It happens.  I have had situations where I have scheduled a few showings, only to have the buyer want to stop the progression of viewings to write an offer on a house they have fallen in love with along the way.  I always try to call sellers when that happens, but I remember one irate seller who interrupted my writing an offer to complain.

Stuff happens.  You are a much kinder soul than I would have been, delivering them an apple pie to apologize.

THANK YOU ALL for responding to this post! Some situations do occur outside the scope of control, clearly this was my fault and wanted the home owners to know that I was sincere. Yes, I could have just left it at the phone call and called it good, but it still felt undone. The agent was just fine with me giving her a gift, thankfully and the pie bridged the (lack of) communication gap and there were smiles alll around when I left them!
