Today my Go Daddy site renewed automatically for another five years. It was a lot of money and despite being offered three deals a week directly or on Facebook, there was no discount on my renewal which was automatic by default. I'm not an automatic person and today i knew why. So I called. If I cancel my service and do a new site, I can save 3/4 of what I was billed. Fine, but I don't have the interest in doing that and I am not sure I need another five years. My tech guy now runs a company and I don't know anyone else. So I am wondering, do I even need a site? I hate to give up anything I have had, and I am found from this every once in awhile. I am still thinking about it.
Well as for the future in this Profession I am not sure how far we can get without one.

In today's day a website is important and is part of our business and branding. I also use Godaddy but I don't have anything set up to be paid automatic for those reasons, although they seems to be very easy to work with.

So many decisions to make and funny I was wondering what I would do with my site today once I retire. It gets tons of hits and I was thinking someone could buy it from me. I can monetized my investment in time and money.

perhaps it's something you could sell to an agent in that market still active? I have always made my sites geocentric to be able to do that.

Morning Sheila.
Retire, what is that? Unless for medical reasons, I enjoy the challenge and have no plans to retire. Even if for some unforeseen reason I had to, I would keep my domain name. As far as a website, probably not

Sheila, that's a tough decision. I hope to be able to sell mine when the time comes for me to retire or scale back. I agree with Elizabeth Weintraub Sacramento Real Estate Agent, Top 1% of Lyon Agents definitely keep the domain name (that's just the web address) and then you can have it pointed to forward to somewhere else. Keep us posted on what you decide.

Thanks Abby. I didn't think I had an atomatic re-up but it is the default. Sheila
At the end of the day, Sheila... only you can make that decision. I use GoDaddy for my urls, but never have anything renew automatically. I've always found them to be quite helpful in finding ways to reduce my costs with them... maybe you got the "wrong" person. I called them on Sunday about a small matter and didn't get the most helpfull person. Called back and got a gem of a person to resolve the issue.

Hi Sheila,
I made a huge mistake letting my domain and primary blog go when I retired. I wasn't thinking clearly for about 3 years after my husband died. I have regretted it ever since the fog cleared from my head.

Just recently, I got rid of my website for no particular reason except that it wasn't producing much of anything. I have no idea if it was a mistake or not but your post brings up the conversation.

I think it would be good to have a new website so you can advertise your new love of antiques. Plus you could build a sphere of influence for your new business. My humble opinion Sheila Anderson
