The Birth of a House

"It takes hands to build a house and hearts to build a home."

Recent discussions about single property websites here on AR got me to reminiscing about a blog I created for some new clients back in 2006.  Wayne and Susan lived in the Seattle area and planned to have their dream home built in Wenatchee.  They would travel back and forth occasionally to check on progress during construction.

Our first order of business was to discuss their vision for their dream home.  Then we started looking for property.  We found a great property and met with a builder to discuss details and pricing.  There were several meetings with the builder, clients and myself.  To make a long story short, the builder became evasive about final costs so we decided to move on.  We found another lot, found a new builder and were on track for the construction of their new home.

On May 20th of 2006 I started a free blog dedicated to the construction of the home so my clients could follow the progress even when they were out of town.  This blog was called Birth of a House.    The last entry was on June 16, 2007.  It was fun blogging the progress from start to finish.

Years ago when my daughter bought a condo I blogged as we worked on it to make it her home.  Each step along the way I posted updates. Family and friends (and many AR members) were excited to follow our progress.

Hi Kathy Streib ,
I always loved watching the progress too!  It just seemed to make sense to do this for them so they could follow along.

Hi Myrl Jeffcoat ,
I know if I was going to build a house, I'd do it.  So fun to look back on it later.  And, thanks for the Feature in the Old Fart's Club!  Appreciate that very much.

Hi Gene Mundt, IL/WI Mortgage Originator - FHA/VA/Conv/Jumbo/Portfolio/Refi ,
Yes, that would have been fun to look back on with your family.  Are you still in that home?

Hi Scott Godzyk ,
Yes, I think that is probably something most builders don't like about presales... the buyers coming by too often with questions and making changes.

Hi Diana Zaccaro ,
Yes, there are always delays and issues to deal with through the process.  That back retaining wall was one of them.
