SOLAR PANELS ON ROOFTOPS IS GROWING IN LAS VEGAS

The Las Vegas Valley is a perfect place to install photovoltaic solar panels on home rooftops with our abundance of sunshine to generate electricity for homes and even an electric car.

Governor Brain Sandoval signed into law Assembly Bill 405 during the 2017 state legislation session in Carson City – this bill created a consumer bill of rights for homeowners that might be thinking of installing photovoltaic solar panels on their rooftops and connecting the panels’ energy to a local utility grid.

Assembly Bill 405 was co-authored by Assemblymen Chris Brooks and Justin Watkins, both from Las Vegas districts, to create more assurance for homeowners over the next 20 years by defining guidelines solar energy guidelines.  The guidelines include net-metering credits and rate structures for state utilities, vendor contract requirements and a plan for recourse for consumers that have been victims of faulty installation or bad business practices.

This new stature we have seen a rebirth of the rooftop solar industry in Southern Nevada.  Large companies like Sunrun, Vivint Solar and Tesla have returned to Nevada to provide rooftop solar installation along with smaller Nevada-based companies – creating more jobs over the last several months.

This coming November there will be Question 3 – The Energy Choice Initiative on the voting ballot for Nevada voters to select.  This initiative proposes creating an open retail market that allows consumers to purchase energy directly from vendors.  This will bring more jobs, lower power bills, more renewable energy and provide energy freedom.  Among sponsors of this initiative are Switch and the Las Vegas Sands Corp – for more information go to www.energyfreedomnv.com

Many homebuilders in Southern Nevada are providing electrical prewiring options and conduit space to accommodate solar power systems within new communities.
