The change to daylight savings time is upon us again. Most of the country will move their clocks 1 hour forward starting Sunday morning. Here in the Phoenix area, we don’t change time, so for my part, I don’t have to do anything other than confirm that the time setting on all my electronic devices is still the same.
But because I have friends and family in many different states. I have to be aware that starting Sunday they are now 1 full hour later than they are today. This is sometimes a problem for them as well because when they think it is a good time to call, I might still be fast asleep.
It also means that my DVR may get confused and record The Three Stooges instead of Gilligan’s Island. I may never find out if the castaways get off the island. Although I am not sure why they want to get off the island, it looks like paradise.
I remember when then President Nixon signed the Emergency Daylight Saving Time Energy Conservation Act of 1973. Which placed the entire country on daylight savings time for 2 years. They claimed it saved energy. I am not sure it did, but I am sure it confused a lot of people and cost businesses a lot of money. It does make an interesting trivia question when you are playing with younger people.
For my part I kind of like the fact that Arizona doesn’t switch because every once in a while I like staying out after dark which is hard for me if the sun is up until 9:00 pm. Even worse, I hate going to bed when it is it is still daylight.
So don’t be offended if you call and I ask “What time is it where you are?” I don’t always know what time it is. Or what day for that matter.
