Tenleytown Main Street Membership
With all the media hype encouraging holiday shopping each year, most people know that the Friday after Thanksgiving is known as Black Friday. And with all the Internet ads you're probably aware that the Monday after Thanksgiving is known as Cyber Monday. Did you know that the Saturday after Thanksgiving is known as Small Business Saturday?
Last October was a great month for my brokerage, my team, and for me. We had just launched our new office and joined a local business organization called Tenleytown Main Street. Last Small Business Saturday, Tenleytown Main Street organized a ribbon cutting, welcoming us to the neighborhood. I even got to hold the big scissors.
Since moving our business to the Upper Northwest neighborhood of Tenleytown we've participated in many local community events. I've supported my fellow Tenleytown Main Street neighbors by being their customer. And while shopping is a fantastic way to support small businesses, I wanted to really get to know my neighbors. I thought a great way to get to know them would be to interview the owners behind the businesses.
Over the last several years I've reviewed restaurants and written Cup of Joe Reports about coffee shops, making judgments about the products or services. Now I'm ready for something new.
Over the next few weeks, I'll be releasing blog posts that are simply mini interviews with some of the local business owners who are also member of Tenleytown Main Street. I hope that you will enjoy getting to know the owners as much as I have.
I admit that I've borrowed an idea I originally saw on James Lipton's show, Inside the Actor's Studio. He took a very simple list of questions which he borrowed from Bernard Pivot and asked each guest the same series of questions. It all comes from an original Proust Questionnaire, but I do not get into such intense personal questions.
So, keep an eye out for the mini-interviews with the local business owners who are my neighbors and get to know the people behind the things you buy, eat, and enjoy. You'll find them on my website at http://www.hollish.com/blog/.
