"I know Heaven is a beautiful place because they have Max and Jeff."
My step-son, Jeff, passed away on Sunday afternoon as a result of complications from diabetes. Of the 5 kids, Jeff was always the happiest one. He had an infectious smile. Even when you wanted to be mad at him, it was hard.
Like his Dad, Jeff had a green thumb and loved to grow things. He was an excellent carpenter and could fix just about anything. I remember wanting some pavers in our courtyard and asked Jeff if he knew how. He said, "I've never done it but I have seen it done and can do it." And he did.
He had his lazy side but when he was working on a project he was possessed to get it done. He would work from sunrise to sunset. He took great pride in his work and always wanted to do it right. He received great joy in a job well-done and pleasing people.
Jeff had a thing for rocks. When he lived with us he created rock cairnes in our flower gardens. I wish I had pictures. He saw things in rocks. He could see how to glue rocks together to makes faces, bodies and all kinds of things. His rock collection has been divided up among family members.
