Stay Healthy Living in Palm Springs

Stay Healthy Living in Palm Spirngs
Palm Springs has always been a destination known for its glamorous lifestyle offerings. What was once a weekend getaway for prominent celebrities in the 50’s and 60’s, is now a golf and spa oasis for mostly snowbirds, retirees, and travelers. The entire city, which was built on and around naturally occurring hot springs, quickly gained itself a reputation as a destination for relaxation and wellness.

Today, the city offers endless spas, workout facilities, healthy dining options, and outdoor recreation activities for those looking to rejuvenate the mind, body, and soul. But most importantly, Palm Springs offers the year-round comfortable climate necessary for taking advantage of all it has to offer.

Stay Active Golfing Year-Round

First and foremost, many consider Palm Springs to be the golf capital of the United States.

Book a tee time at noteworthy courses like Classic Club, Desert Dunes Golf Club or Indian Canyons Golf for the perfect, relaxing start to your morning. Choose from dozens of courses with unique offerings in and around the city.

Build Your Muscles While Exploring the Outdoors

If golf isn’t your favorite outdoor activity, check out one of the many hiking trails located a short drive from the center of Palm Springs. Although the city is located in the middle of a desert, there are scenic hikes ranging from easy to difficult that will wind you through waterfalls, natural streams, and funky rock formations. Some of the most popular trails will even take you into pine tree forests overlooking the entirety of Palm Springs. Whether you’re trying to get a quick morning hike in or embark on a 10-miles or more day hike, there are dozens of nearby trails to explore. If you’re feeling particularly adventurous, rock climbing and mountain biking trails are accessible year-round.

Join Others in Unique Fitness Classes

If the outdoors aren’t calling, Palm Springs is brimming with gyms and unique fitness classes. The area has built itself into a center for all types of yoga classes, particularly hot yoga, which is practiced in a warm room to increase blood flow and further cleanse your body. Boot camps are also a workout trend that has stepped onto Palm Springs’ health and fitness scene. Some boot camps offer various classes that fluctuate between popular high-interval intensity training (HIIT) workouts of your choosing and some boot camps are fully immersive and can last a few days or a week, pushing participants to fulfill their weight loss goals. If you’re looking to completely change up your fitness regime, head to CrossFit Decoded for a Jiu-Jitsu class or One Love Fit Club for some kickboxing. A good way to find the best form of fitness for you is to try a trial class or two at each gym before purchasing a monthly or yearly membership.

Rest Your Body in a Variety of Spa Treatments

After an intense workout, it’s crucial to rest your muscles and mind and Palm Springs has no shortage of spas perfect for doing so. The desert oasis, as Palm Springs has become known, was appropriately named so for its selection of luxurious spas. The Well Spa at Miramonte Resort offers spa-goers the complete relaxation package. The spa is Tuscan-themed, featuring stone massages, multiple steam rooms, soaking pools and more. If you’re looking for a detox, Spa La Quinta is your best bet. The spa, which is hacienda-inspired, has a laundry list of desert-inspired scrubs for your body that can be followed by a detoxifying full body massage or facial. And what would a visit to palm springs be without a soak in natural springs? Twenty minutes from downtown Palm Springs is Desert Hot Springs, where patrons spend all day reviving in natural hot and cold water aquifer pools. The spa is mostly outdoors, allowing you to feel a little closer to Mother Nature and the beautiful surrounding desert landscape. The spa has many different packages for your choosing, but many recommend you include their famous mud bath or body wrap and finish your experience with a soak in the mineral Grotto pool. Regardless of your choosing for a spa, you would struggle to find more tranquil destinations than those available in Palm Springs.

Refuel with Healthy and Whole Foods

So, you’ve gotten your workout in, you’ve relaxed and now it’s time to refuel, and just like Palm Spring’s reputation for spas, the city has become a foodie destination for travelers all over the world. Keeping up with its reputation as a healthy destination, many restaurants have been sure to include lighter delicious fair and some dining digs have decided to craft their entire menus with healthy options. Kale lovers rejoice, because Birba has you covered. The restaurant specializes in local farm to table foods and responsibly-sourced meats. Recently, restaurant-goers have raved about the restaurant’s use of kale in salads, pizzas, and pastas. Palm Greens Café located right off of bustling Palm Springs Canyon is the go-to for vegetarians and vegans alike. Indulge in delicious dishes that don’t break your calorie bank, like quinoa salads with roasted vegetables or a spinach and nut burger with coleslaw. If you would rather learn to make your own dishes and cook at home, many chefs from around the world now teach cooking courses in Palm Springs. At Cooking with Class, you can learn how to make fresh sushi, or learn to maximize your grocery run with their class featuring ingredients specifically from Trader Joes.  Many of the chefs can offer tips and tricks on how to transform some of your favorite dishes into healthier meals.
