Enjoy the Carlsbad Outdoor Lifestyle

Now that spring is here, along with the spring housing market, you might be thinking about buying a new home in Carlsbad. And if so, you may also be pondering the issue of whether to buy a home with a pool or not.

outdoor dining and pool area in CarlsbadSome buyers seeking a new home in Carlsbad are interested in having a private pool, while others prefer a community pool to avoid the maintenance issues. Some don’t care about having either.

Carlsbad homebuyers who would like a private pool will typically have a number of options, depending, of course, on their budget, preferred location, size of house, and the desired neighborhood.

As a home buyer interested in a pool home for sale in Carlsbad, it’s essential to do your due diligence. It’s important to think about added maintenance issues, or paying a pool service to manage them, as well as any additional insurance and utility costs (e.g., water; gas or electric for the heater and filter system).

Your due diligence should include having a full pool inspection during the purchase process, to understand the condition of the pool (and spa, if there is one) and find out about any needed repairs or recommended improvements.

It’s common in our area for buyers to ask that a 1-year home warranty be provided by the sellers as part of the contract. When requesting the home warranty be sure to specify that coverage for the pool and/or spa be included – this is not part of the standard policies.

You will also want to check with the home warranty provider to see if there is a higher cost if the pool is salt water since there could be pricing differences in warranty costs.

Carlsbad pool home buyers will also want to check the local Carlsbad restrictions regarding fencing (type, height, alarms on doors) and any other requirements. Keep in mind these may have changed from the time the house and pool were built. Some of this is just common sense and peace of mind for your family! You will also want to check with your insurance provider, too, on the cost of coverage.

Currently there are 26 Carlsbad homes for sale with pools, ranging in price from $805,000 to $3,989,000, in all 4 of Carlsbad’s zip codes. Some of these have the bonus of a community pool as well!

Some buyers, while not wanting the maintenance issues of a private pool, do want access to a community pool. If that’s your preference, you can consider homes in planned communities that offer community pools among other amenities (e.g., La Costa Greens, Bressi Ranch, Calavera Hills, La Costa Valley, La Costa Oaks, The Foothills at Carlsbad, Robertson Ranch). In South Carlsbad there is also the Alga Norte Community park with an aquatic swim center.

And, of course, whether or not you have a private pool all Carlsbad home buyers have access to the biggest pool in the world, the Pacific Ocean, just a few miles away! It’s just a little bit salty!

If I lived in Carlsbad, I would defniitely want a pool.  Preferably one with a hot tub.

Hi Chris Ann Cleland

There are plenty of buyers who do, some who are OK with it or not, and others that are adamant about NOT having one or living in a community where there are fees. Hot tubs and spas (in-ground, like ours, and above ground) are pretty popular.

People are beginning to speak of pools here. I bet they talk about them year round where you are, Jeff.
