I have always loved the Taj Mahal, and until my trip to Abu Dhabi I thought nothing could come close. Well, the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque in Abu Dhabi certainly does and surpasses it. It is absolutely stunning and standing there at sunset listening to the muezzin call the faithful to prayer is truly a spiritual experience.
The mosque boasts Swarovsky crystal chandeliers, the largest being the third largest in the world
and the largest loomed carpet in the world.
It is constructed with 100,000 of pure white Greek and Macedonian marble and the inside walls are inlaid with semi-precious stones.
I had been looking forward to seeing Dubai, but Abu Dhabi has it beat hands down.
Beautiful architecture,
and the most expensive hotel ever built, the Emirates Palace.
But again, to cap it all, enjoy the experience of the call to prayer at the Grand Mosque.
