Chestermere is Calgary's closest neighbour, in fact just across the street from Calgary.  With a population of 20,313 Chestermere is now a city.  The lake is 750 acres and runs 3.5 miles by 1.2 mile wide.  It is an irrigation lake that was a natural body of water that ran from its current location all the way down to Sheppard.  In the late 1800's  stone from the Frank slide was brought by train to dam the end of the lake and create the Western Irrigation District.  The water flows in to the lake from the Bow River and flows out two different canals to provide water for irrigation in the South West area of the province.  The water changes over about every 5 day.

Chestermere residents live a very active lifestyle with cycling and walking paths throughout the neighbourhoods.  There is waterskiing, wakesurfing, sailing, paddleboarding, kayaking, canoeing on the lake.  The temperature in the lake is about 70 degrees F or 20 C.  Because of the constant change over from the Bow River it does not get much warmer than that.  I can attest that that is quite swimmable, once you adjust.   The first time every year is a bit tough but after that it is very refreshing.

Homes on the East side of the lake enjoy a mountain view and exceptional sunsets.  Some of the homes on the East side have a natural sandy lakebed, as they are on the old beach from before the lake was dammed. This home is one of them.
