Relocation Services for Buyers and Sellers
Carlsbad CA and Nearby
One of my favorite niche markets, and maybe the biggest one, is relocation. That is, assisting buyers and sellers who are relocating a distance, whether leaving my local area or moving here.
Any who buys, or sells, a home is moving, of course, but I find there are more complex issues associated with moving a longer distance, such as to and from other parts of California or other states, than locally. And it often takes quite a bit more planning.
I know a bit about relocation, from making 4 major moves myself, the most recent from Boston to Carlsbad in 2005, plus moving my Mom move from PA to Carlsbad, and helping my younger daughter move from Oakland to Los Angeles!
About a third of my business on average is relocation, although it varies from year to year. In addition to my personal experience, which I find particularly helpful to those who are moving, I have been involved with relocation as a Human Resources professional in the past, helping employees move but also setting up and coordinating relocations. I’m familiar with corporate relocation packages and companies and know how those work, too.
Plus I have worked with numerous relocation clients within California and coming from across the country.
Here are some of the resources and services I offer my Relocation Clients:
My Blogs
I write on 2 different blogs – here on ActiveRain and At Home in Carlsbad.
Both are a tremendous resource about real estate for buyers and sellers, as well as providing abundant information about towns, neighborhoods, subdivisions, condo complexes, dining, shopping, tourist stuff, things to do, recreation, local beaches, and more.
If you want to learn more about Carlsbad or a nearby area you are interested in you’ll likely find it on my blogs. But if you don’t find what you are looking for let me know and I will fill you in…I may just have not written about it yet.
Video and Photos
Some time MLS listings are sadly lacking in information, in particular photos and videos.
I spend time taking photos and videos for those who are relocating and need to know more about the house or houses and neighborhoods they are interested in.
And I can take you on a live tour of the home on Facetime, too!
Yes, there is good information on the Internet about houses for sale, but not always. What’s the yard like? The street? The neighborhood? The views? What about the interior?
When you are not local you need some additional feet on the ground in the area to help – I can be that resource for you!
Relocation Checklist
I created a 5-page checklist of issues to consider when planning a relocation, from start to finish that I share with clients. Whether they have made a major move or not, I find buyers and sellers are often surprised at all the details to coordinate and stuff you have to remember to do. It can get overwhelming, and it’s easy to forget important things when you are really busy – like that address change! You probably want to create your own checklist, too!
I have other checklists, too, to help in your move and to make your life simpler when you are buying and'or selling a home with my help.
Questions to Ask Your Movers (checklist)
There are a number of important questions to ask movers you are interviewing to pack and move your household goods to your new home . Not all moving companies are the same, and you need to have all the information, including estimated moving costs, so you can make an informed decision.
This checklist will help you focus on the relevant issues and get the answers you need to make the right decision about who to hire. You might need specialized moving services, for example, and you need to know what services are available (e.g, moving a car or a boat) and what they cost!
NOTE - if you are relocating with a corporate relocation package your options may be limited, and you may not get the choice of mover since you are not paying for it.
Relocation Tips Video Series
I have a video playlist, Relocation Tips and Advice on my YouTube Channel, of 19 short videos on a host of issues you should know about before you relocate – getting pre-approved, moving with a relocation package, renting vs. buying when relocating, house hunting trips, and more. You can check ‘em out on the go on your smartphone!
Moving Boxes
I have lots of boxes – REAL moving boxes in different sizes - and paper, plus some bubble wrap.
If you are moving locally, or out of the area, I am happy to drop some off at your door, then pick them up when you are done if you are local. Or feel free to keep them if you wish, or otherwise donate them.
And if you need to do some packing when we are preparing your home for the market, these boxes might come in handy. If you move here from out of town I will pick up and recycle your unwanted boxes after you are done unpacking, or during that process.
