While there's technically no such thing as completely maintenace free housing (unless you're willing to hire a handyman to take care of the routine items like replacing burnt out lightbults and air filters), you CAN get pretty close depending on your choice!
Many of our buyers choose a patio home for its low maintenance.
While you still own the entire home and the lot, the landscaping is contracted as part of the HOA fees and in general patio homes are made from low maintenance materials (brick, stone, cement board, vinyl siding, etc.). Buy a patio home new enough and you SHOULD only be dealing with routine expenses for years and years.
Other buyers choose a condo, and those come in quite a few configurations: attached ranch in a side by side configuration, four unit, stacked like apartments, multistory, townhome, with and without a basement, etc. And each configuration means you don't have to do much outside except change the light bulb on the deck light! Your HOA fees take care of the rough and everything else outside. As long as your association maintains an adequate reserve, you won't get hit with extra big ticket items years later.
Patio homes and condos cover the spectrum on price and options. Location can significantly influence prices. For instance if you want a new construction patio home in Blue Ash, be prepared to spend $500,000 (or more). Willing to move out a bit? We can find new construction patio homes from the mid-200s and up. 10 to 15 miles can make a HUGE difference in price! And condos operate on much the same principles, location, location, location!
