One of the main reasons I love living in Santa Cruz is our beautiful beaches. Santa Cruz shores have become a hot destination spot for surfer, families and college students nationally. Yet our shores wouldn’t be what they are without the Monterey National Marine Sanctuary.
The Monterey National Marine Sanctuary has protected our ocean and its shores from Marin to Cambria for over twenty years. Established for the use of protection, research, and education, the Sanctuary protects over 700 different species. Even animals each year travel thousands of miles to reach these rich feeding grounds.
To learn more about the Monterey National Marine Sanctuary you visit the Sanctuary Exploration Center right here in Santa Cruz, just steps away from the Santa Cruz Wharf. The sanctuary houses state of the art exhibits and interactive displays that allows the whole family to gain a perspective on our local marine environment. The Sanctuary also hosts events like Coastal Clean Up Day and Whalefest year-round for people of all ages. And the best part, admission is free!!
Events like these are why I love living in Santa Cruz.
