I closed on a house in Pearland today, and did a final walk-through with the buyers a few hours prior to closing. I always do a final walk-through with my buyers, just to make sure the home is left clean, any required repairs have been completed satisfactorily, and that there have been no damages to the home since we last saw it.
On this particular house, the sellers had previously agreed to have the home professionally cleaned prior to closing, and they also agreed to pay particular attention to cleaning the oven, which was very dirty when we first saw it.
Well, guess what? At the walk-through this morning, the oven was still just as dirty as it had been when the buyers first viewed the property. We noticed dust on the ceiling fans, grease on the microwave, and several light bulbs throughout the house were missing or burned out. The house did not appear to have been professionally cleaned beyond mopping the floors and wiping down the countertops.
I called the listing agent to discuss things, and explained the problem. He said he was surprised because the cleaning service was there yesterday, and he had the receipt in his possession. He apologized for the oversight and said he would make things right. He offered to purchase a Visa gift card that the buyers could use to pay a cleaning service of their choice to clean the house to their standards. He ran right out, bought the card, sent me a picture of the card and the receipt, and left the card on the kitchen counter for the buyers.
I really enjoyed working with this agent, because he was a good communicator throughout the transaction process. He was willing to do whatever it took to make things right and close the deal. I look forward to working with him again.
He followed through - even though the sellers didn't!
