There are several memorials that would make a great time to learn more about Denison and the RED RIVER RAIL ROAD museum.
The Missouri, Kansas and Texas therefore called MKT railroad was established in 1872 to allow the rail head of the wilderness of the RED River area to grow and prosper. The town of Denison grew quickly to upwards of Three Thousand people in a short time of around 100 days. That is a quick move for back in the day considering traveling was very different than it is now. Take a step back into the past when you visit the Red River Railroad Museum. Well worth the trip.
The Katy Depot used to be the center of the railroads operations station until Mid August of the year 1988. At that time the railroad merged with Union Pacific railroad systems. At that time it was also called Union Depot to go along with the merger of the Union Pacific Railroad, as time moved forward the addition of the Frisco, Houston and Texas Central systems became part of the Southern Pacific Rail system. 
Make plans to head out to Denison Texas and see the Heritage of the pioneer that has been carefully preserved for your viewing and learning experience. The Museum is located inside the Historic Katy Depot just East of the downtown Denison area of main street. Denison is about and hour north of the Dallas area depending on the traffic. You will find many beautiful memories of the golden era of the rail road system. The Red River Railroad Museum has many displays of railroad related items, with many display cases filled with photos. You will find books, maps and everything concerning rail road history in the Denison Texas community and much more.
