I recommend you start hiking early in the morning. This allows for more "me" time on the trail, as later on it tends to become pretty crowded. I started my hike at the Major Welch Trail head, which begins your ascend immediately.
At a few sections you'll come across some heavy duty cardio rock scrambling. Other areas will level out and eventually you reach the top of the mountain, where you'll see the Perkins Tower. After ward you descend on the Appalachian Trail, back to the Bear Mountain Inn. This loop is considered at the moderate level. Keep in mind, there are plenty of trails to choose from. Be sure to bring sunglasses, a hat, water, and some healthy hiking snacks.
Happy Trails!
