The Hummingbird Capital of the United States - Arizona

Desert Botanical Garden is always relaxing, entertaining and educational.

We like to stroll there in every season and there is always something new that surprises us.

While walking in the Arizona Wild Flower section today, we learned that the reason we see so many humming birds on our patio is because there are so many around here.

There are 15 hummingbird species recorded. Some species stay year round, others come for the spring and summer.

The Wild flower section of the garden was all in bloom. My camera was very happy to meet many species and colors.

Desert Botanical Garden is open from 8am till 8pm daily.

Hi Steffy

Thank you for a beautiful post! I had no idea what Arizona was the hummer capital of the world! We love watching the hummers in our yard. There’s one nesting in the palm tree by our front door!

Jeff

Hi Jeff Dowler, CRS , We like to watch them, too. They are so smart with the choice of a nest place in the tree. The feral cat that likes to watch them, too, has a very wistful look.

Good morning Steffy. I never knew this either. I saw hummingbirds in South America and every so often here at home.

Endre Barath, Jr. , what colors were they? Did they look like the ones on the photo? Next time I will have a zoom camera with me for some extra photos of the birds. Thanks for stopping by.

Hi Myrl Jeffcoat , that's a temporary art installation by Jun Kaneko. I agree, I could not pass by it, and not capture it in a photo.

Looks like a great place. My Uncle many years ago had an albino hummingbird that would come to his backyard feeder.

I had no idea there were that many types of hummingbirds.  I have seen a few different ones. Some seem more aggressive than others.

Steffy Hristova - It looks like I wasn't the only one to discover the Desert Botanical Gardens in Tempe is the Capital for Humming Birds! I just love them, and never knew this about AZ. The past 2 years I planted some flowers in front of my Study and had Humming Birds on a regular basis. I also saw them in Maine when I lived there during the Summer. Hummers get around, but I didn't know they had such a beautiful home at the Desert Botanical Gardens. You are fortunate! I'm glad Gayle Rich-Boxman Fishhawk Lake Real Estate featured you in her Travelogue too!
