LAS VEGANS ENTHUSIASTIC ABOUT THE” DESIGN WARS” WORKSHOP

By
Real Estate Agent with The Smith Team 21625

February 28 was the date of the most current “Design Wars” workshop held at Ascaya in Henderson.  This was open to the public and featured design experts Shelly Gorman of SKG Designs and Michele Aloe, showroom manager at Walker Zanger.

This was the second in a series of free workshops and started by Denise Reichartz and Ida Doman both working in the housing market.  Many clients will ask their Realtor advice on what to do with the home they just purchased.  Now you can ask experts in the design field.

Some of the topics discussed were - ‘When is it ok to trend follow interior design concepts”, “Is anything timeless” and “Where should you look for inspiration if you’re building new”.  The big take-away was there are no strict rules to follow when it comes to interior design today.

Gorman and Aloe reviewed the “colors of the year” that paint companies annually release – Sherwin Williams 2017 color of the year was Poised Taupe – it’s neutral and a nice way to bring grey and brown tones together and also can de-Tuscanize your home.  They also discussed energetic colors were popular this year – the color of 2018 is called Oceanside – a rich blue meets a jewel-tone green.  If vibrant colors intimidate you, use them as accent pieces like pillows or vases.

Fireplace renovation was another topic of conversation – fireplace renovation is quick and change can give the whole room the look of a face lift. Other topics were wallpaper that has come back into favor with bold graphic prints that are fun.  Wallpaper is great for powder rooms and you can really express yourself in this room.  Plus metals in gold tones are experiencing a revival with gold faucets, hardware and even accent metal on furniture.

Bottom Line – Remember you live in your home and you are the one that has to feel comfortable in your surroundings.  Use good quality materials and reputable installers plus maintaining your home and you will be happy.
