CYA (Covering Your Appliances) While Renting

By
Industry Observer with RHW

Whenever you are responsible for the upkeep of your homes appliances and home systems whether by a home you own or a home you rent you should consider the best ways to cover yourself for unexpected expenses.

When renting a home the included appliances may vary. Some landlords may include the whole home of appliances others may only include a few and other landlords might not have any appliances in their rentals. There is no standard when renting a home like there is when you rent an apartment from a complex. When you rent from an apartment complex they will include everything in each apartment generally fridge, stove sometimes they will have dishwashers and built in microwaves. Higher end apartments will also include a washer and dryer.

Depending on the property you rent from will depend on what kind of needs you will have to cover your appliances. A home warranty can be applied to a home you own or a home you rent. A home warranty is an insurance policy you can get to cover the repairs and replacement of your appliances helping you balance out your monthly budget. A home warranty for a whole home of appliances is generally $35, so if you are not covering an entire home coverage will be less expensive.

If you are renting you may not opt to buy brand new or expensive appliances, since moving appliances from one home to another is a general pain. If you need to buy appliances for your rental home you should consider getting coverage for your appliances. Having coverage on your appliances will help incase any unexpected repairs or replacements are needed on the appliances. Just because you buy brand new appliances does not mean that there will not be any issues.

If you have a fridge that you purchased for your rental home and it stops keeping your food fresh being able to call right away to get it fixed is imperative. If you wait or if you are waiting on your landlord to handle the issue your food could spoil and end up costing you more money. If you are the one who calls and handles the issues you know that it is being done quickly. Keep in mind that your landlord does want you to have a working appliance however they will not care as much as YOU DO.

Having coverage on your appliances while living in a rental is a good idea because it can help you budget your monthly expenses. It can help you avoid costly repairs or replacements of those covered appliances. It’s always important to CYA – Cover Your Appliances whether you rent or own your home.

So many people in this generation are renting, so this is the most valuable for them, and there are a lot of them. This is a good idea to post about for sure!

This is such a simple thing that doesn’t get talked about enough, I think. Thank you for not only mentioning it, but featuring it as well.
