Located in southern West Virginia, Alderson is a community split geographically by the Greenbrier River, with portions in both Greenbrier and Monroe Counties. Although split physically by the river, the town functions as one entity, including that of town government, and is home to about 1,200 residents.
Alderson is designated as a National Register of Historic Places with 1,390 acres and 165 structures of historic or architectural significance. Alderson is a beautiful and quiet residential community with retail establishments in its downtown historic district. You will find many camps and vacation homes along the Greenbrier River and tourists visiting the surrounding countryside. Driving around this small town, you will see homes from the turn of the 20th Century, such as Federal, Queen Anne and Victorian styled homes.
Transportation by car is the best way to see this beautiful historic town. Alderson is about 12 miles from Interstate 64, 16 miles west of historic Lewisburg, the county seat of Greenbrier County; 23 miles east of Hinton, WV, and about 45 miles east of Beckley, WV.
