Doing the right thing; Sitterle Homes

New Construction is an amazing industry, but mistakes happen, and if you think they don't then you knowledge of new construction is limited, it is the nature of the beast. I have been in the industry for 14 years. When you have a million moving parts to a product mistakes happen. Yes ,I have seen my share of mistakes, we found one this morning, even though we had something double checked and triple checked. Our boss said tear it down start over do it right without hesitation. I know many builders would have said No, we are not correcting it we will move forward, taking the short cut as most builders do.

Many times what sets you apart is how you correct a mistake that is when the true character of a company comes into play.

Please note  this was not an error on quality or safety. I then knew again I have made the right choice to work for a builder who earns their reputation everyday. We are not the cheapest builder but we are the best.

Builder reputation is a vitally important component to new home sales.  My son bought a new home several years ago in Southern California.  Right away there was an issue on the wall where the fireplace was.  I was really relieved that the builder took care of it right away.

Myrl Jeffcoat The thing on this we could have refused to do it and it would not have been a problem except that was not what the buyer wanted and builders will say sorry it's to late to change we did not.

My experience in recent years has been that most builders in our area will "do the right thing." Last year I sold a new construction home where the master bedroom carpet wasn't done quite right... the builder replaced all the carpet on the second floor (and we are talking a big second floor).

Thanks for sharing your experience.

Prospective new home buyers should ask about the reputation of the builders they are considering.

Hi Yolanda- all new construction builders are different but the ones who put quality over quantity, and who value doing the right thing are the ones you want building your home.

Good morning Yolanda. I love this. The mark of any of us is how we deal with adversity and how willing we are to correct mistakes.

Hi Yolanda,
I have long contended that mistakes can be good for business because how you handle it says more than words!

Yolanda, that is nice to know your current employer does do the right thing.  I closed one end of December, they took so many short cuts!
