8 Ways To Boost Your Charlotte Home's Curb Appeal This Spring {Infographic}

By

Whether you're selling your home this spring (or even if you're not, here are 8 great ways to boost your home's curb appeal. It's so true that you rarely get a second change to make a good first impression. When a home's curb appeal makes a great first impression, everyone -- including prospective homebuyers -- is eager to see what's inside.

If you are planning to sell, keep in mind that prospective buyers begin to judge your home from the minute they pull up to the curb and that you have at most 60 seconds to make a great first impression. Buyers who like what they see on the outside prepare themselves to like what they will see on the inside. Buyers who don't like what they see on the outside mentally prepare themselves to find reasons to dislike what they see inside. And some buyers won't even walk into a home if they've been turned off by the lack of curb appeal.

Dressing up your front door is one of the most important things you can do to boost curb appeal. The  front door is the focal point of a home's curb appeal and often neglected by sellers. You want to make  a statement with your front door, be it with color, a fresh coat of paint or even with a new door.  Be sure to clean off dirty spots around the door's hardware and polish up the door fixtures. Get rid of any cobwebs growing around the door. There are many differing opinions on whether the front door should have a wreath when you're selling a home. If you do like having a wreath, the entry to your home should  reflect its interior, so be sure to choose something that reflects your personal style. By the way, don't forget to make sure that the front door lock easily opens... nothing more annoying to buyers than watching their agent struggle with a key and lock to let them in.

Grant Schneider ~ hi Grant... these are pretty basic home maintenance tips if you ask me... and yet, it amazes me how many people neglect them.

Hi Nina Hollander, this is a great post for everyone whether selling or not.  I was showing a home over the weekend priced in the high $300's which is high in our area, the mailbox was held together with cords. Just amazes me how many people neglect the basic home maintenance.

Beth Atalay ~ hi Beth... I couldn't agree more. That mailbox story is a new one on me... of course, here in Charlotte so many of our communities have HOA's who would send a polite, but strongly worded letter to the homeowner to get a new mailbox!

I plan to paint the front door soon. Just need to decide on a wonderful new color. Not to sell, but for our enjoyment. :) That's important too, right? Ha.

Debb Janes EcoBroker and Bernie Stea JD ~ of course, it's important, Debb. I'm always amazed that people wait to make things nice to sell a home instead of enjoying it themselves. I love painted doors. Mine is black with leaded glass, but my house is painted a hydrangea blue, so I think adding another color to the front door might be a tad too much. However, if I ever repaint to a more neutral shade, you can bet my door will get a great new color!

Lawrence "Larry" & Sheila Agranoff. Cell: 631-805-4400 ~ hi Sheila and Larry... I can't tell you how often I've had a client in the car who decided not to even get out of the car and look at a home because of the poor curb appeal.

Patricia Feager ~ thanks, Patricia. It really isn't, as you say, all that difficult to maintain a home's curb appeal. It only gets complicated when people neglect it for a long time and then have to undo years of neglect.

Great graphic!  It's all very true.

The one thing about having snow so late in the season here in NH is that I was able to avoid a lot of trimming and mulching and yard clean up by selling my home when I did! Just a week or so more and I would have been very busy and spent a lot of money! Dodged that bullet!
