April Lilac in Sedona

April Lilac in Sedona from Rick & Sheri Sperry on Vimeo.

Lilac needs a good freeze to bloom well. I am always so happy to see our lilac bloom this time of year. Though our weather gets cold and temps dip below freezing, sometimes for hours, daytime temperatures rarely ever have stayed below 32º.  In the last 8 years, only 2 days have been below 32º for a high. Once the sun comes up the temperature rises. This is the main reason snow does not stay on the ground.

Weather Update for Sedona

March 2018 Sedona Weather by category

Overall we ended winter 2018 with cooler weather than the previous year. The mean temp for the previous two months was at least four degrees cooler than 2017 each month. The weather station is located at the end of Soldiers Pass where the average tempertures are about 3º cooler due to slight elevation increases at the end of the pass.

Morning Sheri.

Our last cold night was last night.  I suspect today or tomorrow, my wife will start her planting season.

What gorgeous pictures!

In our area, Days Dipped Below 32 in the past few months would probably be somewhere around 30!

Sheri, we are still about a month behind to see lilacs blooming.   The buds are there for the leaves right now.  They are such wonderful bushes, and smell so good!

I wish we had some lilacs in our home garden.

We had an overnight freeze warning in our area.

HI Sheri... I love lilacs... I had no idea they needed a freeze to bloom well (then again I'm totally honest about being a garding idiot!).
