"Some players are taller than others, some are heavier than others, some are left-handed, some are right-handed, but the one thing they share in carrying No. 42 is the fact that the man who wore it gave them the one thing that no one at the time could ever have done. He gave them equality, and he gave them opportunity."
-Vin Scully
I really enjoyed watching baseball Sunday, April 15th, as Major League Baseball honored the late great Jackie Robinson.
On Jackie Robinson Day, EVERY player in all of major league baseball wore Jackie's #42, which had been officially retired from baseball in 1997, 50 years after his debut.
Robinson was the first player to break the color barrier in Major League Baseball on April 15, 1947. He suffered a great deal of racism and hardship during ensuing years but stayed the course and changed history for all of posterity.
It is people like Jackie Robinson who don't sit around complaining about the injustices in life. They don't let anyone or anything hold them back from their dreams. They go out and get it, in spite of the sacrifices. That is what dreams are made of. That's how history is made.
Ignoring the ceiling...the barriers...the opinions of others and following your dreams is what history...inventors...heroes are made of...Amen and Women.

Most of the significant change in this country was due to one person taking a stand (or in Rosa Parks case sat on a bus) and creating a cause. Jackie Robinson was one of those people.
Good morning James Dray ,
I think some people were born to be leaders of their time!

Stop whining and be the change, right?

Good morning Sheila Anderson ,
I love how Robinson just kept going and never let all the abuse and negativity sway him. He never lashed back. His courage and passion were immense.
Good morning Gabe Sanders
Yes, many struggles and eventually great rewards... not just for himself but those of all races.

Good morning Wayne Martin ,
Many try to be intimidators to stop change. You have to admire someone like Robinson who never lashed back and just kept going with his courage and passion.
In my younger years, I worked at a company who had an employee who idolized Jackie Robinson. He had pictures of him in his office and on his desk. I actually thought he knew him personally, but they had never met.
Carol-I am so sorry that I missed this. What you said...about not sitting around complaining but doing something about it...rang so true. I can't imagine what he had to endure.
He really helped change the world for the better and I am grateful that he did. Thank you for sharing.
I have very little time for complainers. If you don't ike the way something is, do something about it.
Carol what a great post as a Boston Red Sox fan, I enjoyed the fact that every team wore #42 on their Jerseys to recognize him and needless to say those Jerseys will be collector's items, Endre
