Not So Wordless Wednesday: White Wisteria In Bloom In Santa Barbara!

Most of the wisteria one sees in Santa Barbara is  lavender. There is one place in town, at the La Cumbre Shopping Center, (home of Tiffany's, Williams Sonoma, etc), where you can find 10 foot colonnades of white wisteria adorning the columns.

The Chinese refer to wisteria  as  "chiao tang" which translates as beautiful vine. The Japanese named it Fuji!  It has a light fragrance.  We are told that the blooms also comes in pink, which we have not yet seen.  One of our friends in Los Angeles has an harbor of purple wisteria over her outdoor dining table.

Wishing you all a very delightful Wednesday!

Good morning Ron and Alexandra Seigel ,

I love the white wisteria! It looks so calming and elegant. I also love white geraniums and have some beautiful ones blooming out on our deck that I can see everyday from the family room window!

Hi Ron and Alexandra Seigel - I have only seen lavendar wisteria. White is pretty too. It would make a nice mix with lavendar as well.

Thanks for introducing me to something new!

Stunning looking vine.  I have seldom given though to White Wisteria, always noticing the purple.  However, the white one gives a nice essence of purity.

How gorgeous. I love white blossoms - especially en mass. Last year, I had one shade garden with all white blooms - it was especially lovely against the various shades of green. I too have only seen the lavender wisteria - this is really special. D

I enjoyed learning more about wisteria, especially since I knew nothing about it before reading this post, haha.  It certainly is beautiful.

Hi Ron and Alexandra Seigel - How very special to see white blooms for Wisteria. The lavender color is so prevalent that it is more easily identifiable as Wisteria.  This is a great find and the landscaping company that planted it should be commended. It stands out just like the store brands you mentioned.

I love the way Wisteria looks. The is a huge patch of it growing wild near my mother's house that covers almost an entire tree.

Hannah Williams I love wisteria.  The blooms are a foot to a foot and a half long.  There is a whole hedge of wisteria in the industrial zone in Santa Barbara.  I will have to make a detour soon to see how it is doing. A

Ron and Alexandra- if I remember correctly, the wisteria we had on our fence in Houston was purple. What I do remember was how upset we were when our neighbor but it down.
