Is prayer an effective marketing strategy?

By
Real Estate Agent with HomeSmart SA541769000

When I was a newer agent I worked with a mentor. My mentor was an experienced agent who had sold many homes. He knew how to get listings. But more importantly, he knew how to sell those properties. He had a marketing plan that included pricing, staging, advertising, and promotion. Of course, this was in an era before Facebook, Zillow, etc. Most of our advertising was local. But one thing he insisted on was promoting your listings.

I remember him telling me “Too many agents use the "3P” method."

  • Put up a sign
  • Put it in the MLS
  • Pray.

The way we market homes has changed. It is much easier to reach a wide audience these days. But because of easy access to mass media, it has also become more difficult to differentiate your listings from the others. So once again the challenge becomes promoting your listings.

You could just use the 3 "P" method and it will eventually sell. All properties eventually sell. But if you really want to score points with your clients you need to sell them fast, without any hassle. If we have learned anything in the last few years we have learned that selling quickly without drama is more important to sellers than anything else. Don’t believe me? Just go ask anyone that has sold their home through Offerpad, Opendoor, Cerberus and soon to be Zillow. Today’s sellers are willing to pay more for a fast, convenient, easy sale.

Want to differentiate yourself from the other agents and especially the convenience companies? Show your clients how you will promote their property with a solid marketing plan. Then prove it by getting it sold quickly. Be the answer to your client’s prayers, not the one praying for an answer.

Ask and you will receive, that is the praying  part, Then it needs to be followed by seeking, and then knocking. For everyone that asks recieves, and who seeks finds, and who knocks...the door shall be opened to them.

A huge flood threatened a devout man's home, as floodwaters rose to his front door. Neighbors came by in a 4 x 4 to take him to safety. The man refused assistance, saying 'The Lord will save me'.

Floodwaters rose up higher, and the man watched from the second floor of his home. A boat came by, beckoning the man to join them. He again refused, saying, 'The Lord will save me.'
Floodwaters continued to rise, and the man climbed onto the roof of his home. A helicopter flew over and dropped a harness to rescue the man. He refused, saying, 'The Lord will save me'.
The man drowned.

At the pearly gates, he asked God, "Why didn't you save me?"
The Lord said . . . I sent a fourby, a boat and a helicopter, what the hell else did you want?

Prayer is always a good thing to do. Sometimes we need to be prepared and ready to recieve the blessing we ask for, though. Thank you for sharing.

The gal next door to me my freshman year in college was the daughter of a minister. She told him she was just going to pray like an  angel  for good grades during finals...he told her she also better study like the Deviil...uh huh.

Joseph, I try never to discard any marketing tools, the more the better and if I am competing against an atheist than prayer could be the extra weapon in the  arsenal against the competition:))Endre

Thanks for sharing, Joseph Domino 480-390-6011. While prayer is always a good thing, it doesn't work well as a primary marketing tool! There certainly is a  LOT more to selling a home than the 3Ps!

one of the things I have always appreciated about my career in real estate over the past 20 years, how, by nature of the business, it stretches and builds my faith and trust in God. Granted, I work very hard on doing all the things necessary to be successful, and to represent my client's best interests to the fullest degree possible, but at the end of the day, God rewards my efforts, and my desire to honor & please Him in the way I conduct my business. But I agree wholeheartily, our current market dynamics breeds the 3P Model agents & brokers who get lazy, and simply rely on low inventory and pent-up Buyer demands!

When the sale is quick and relatively easy, sellers think we make too much money.  When there are problems that need fixing, sometimes they blame us and get too stressed out.  Most of the time, all parties are happy!
