Yeah, I'm coming down with a case of new-car-itis.

So many of the new cars have great new dashboards.  Lots and lots of new features, and oh, that smell of leather....mmmm... I love it. (yeah, I'm getting a fresh case of new-car-itis).

But, one of the new features they're pushing is these new digital dashboards.

The speedometer... the odometer... nothing really exists... it's all virtual.

Nothing really exists, except in the computer brain of the car.  They show the car starting up, and the speedometer, et al... appearing out of nowhere.

I'm a touch old-fashioned on somethings... I really like analog speedometers.  Digital is fun, and all... but there's just something about a real, non-digital dashboard that's still there, that doesn't make you feel as though you just turned on a video game, that you can still read once you've turned the car off.

Is that so wrong?

Morning Alan.

Just bought me a new vehicle less than a month ago.  I suspect it will last me about 10 years or so.  The ride is just wonderful, like floating on a cloud

ah....the ubiquitous cloud-mobile.  Very nice.

Good morning Alan. I am so with you on this. The Audi Q5 I bought last year was  already a few years old and I still can't figure it all out.

I shouldn't have to take a graduate level class to learn how to use my car.

Good morning Alan. My car is 12 years old and I am hoping it lasts another 4 or 5 years. Then, like you I will resist a bit purchasing a new one with current features. Enjoy your day!

I'm not doing such a good job of resisting.

Alan - I must admit I have been hanging onto my car because I have certain fears about the new technology associated with newer models.  That whole automatic breaking thing scares the heck outta me.  Imagine you are driving down a fast paced freeway in heavy traffic with a semi behind you.  And, that's the moment your new car's "brain" has a meltdown from a stroke, and puts the brakes on!

mine doesn't have automatic breaking... but it does have automatic beeping at you, when it thinks you should be breaking.  It's annoying.

Alan- we have a Jag convertible with the old analog dials. It's what we love about the car. Besides the more computerized and digital the cars get, the less likely the average Joe can work on them.
